The US is concerned about the cooperation between Russia and China in the Arctic

The United States believes that Russia and China are increasingly cooperating in the Arctic, which may affect regional stability.

This was announced in the Pentagon, writes Reuters.

Russia has reopened hundreds of Soviet-era military sites in the Arctic, and China also has ambitions in the region and has announced plans to build a “Polar Silk Road.”

China is counting on mineral resources and new sea routes as the ice sheets retreat as temperatures rise.

The Pentagon noted that Arctic sea lanes are increasingly being used to connect major economies across the Pacific and Atlantic oceans as global warming shrinks ice cover and increases sea ice-free periods.

China and Russia are working together to develop Arctic sea lanes as Moscow seeks to supply more oil and gas to China amid Western sanctions and China seeks an alternative sea route to reduce its dependence on the Strait of Malacca.

USM previously reported that the US, Canada and Finland plan to build icebreakers together.
