The US will export at least 9 billion cubic meters of LNG to Britain in 2023

The United States and Great Britain agreed to increase imports of American liquefied natural gas.

US President Joe Biden and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak signed an agreement to increase US LNG exports, The Guardian reports.

Biden and Sunak also created a joint action group to reduce global dependence on Russian energy carriers.

Under the deal, the US plans to at least double LNG exports to the UK next year compared to 2021 deliveries.

Rishi Sunak said that together the UK and the US will ensure a global price for energy, and the security of supply of the two countries will never again depend on the whims of a “failing regime”.

As part of the agreement, the US plans to export at least 9-10 billion cubic meters of LNG through British terminals in 2023.

In 2021, Great Britain imported 3.9 billion cubic meters of LNG from the United States — 26% of the country’s total imports of liquefied natural gas. From October 2021 to October 2022, Britain imported 9.7 billion cubic meters of American gas, which is 42% of the country’s total imports.
