The USA will allocate $20 million to the Grain From Ukraine program

The US government announced the allocation of up to $20 million for the implementation of the Grain from Ukraine initiative.

“The United States is providing up to $20 million through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to the Grain from Ukraine initiative announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the G20 summit earlier this week to help feed people around the world,” — says the message of the US Embassy in Ukraine to “Ukrinform”.

USAID will provide support through the UN World Food Program (WFP) to facilitate additional supplies of Ukrainian grain within the “Grain Initiative”.

The United States have already allocated $173 million to the WFP for the purchase of Ukrainian grain in order to reduce the consequences of the acute food crisis for the countries that feel it the most. These include Ethiopia, Yemen and Afghanistan. 210,000 tons of food were purchased with US funds: this is enough to feed more than 12 million people for one month.

As part of the Grain from Ukraine program, Ukraine directs part of the harvested wheat that was sent for export to help countries in need. The export grain can be purchased by the states participating in the project.

The first vessel under the Grain from Ukraine program is already on its way to Ethiopia via the “grain corridor”, it will deliver 27,000 tons of Ukrainian wheat.
