The yacht of a russian businessman tried to “escape” from Barcelona
The yacht of the general director of the Rostec corporation, Sergey Chemezov, was detained while trying to illegally leave the port of Barcelona.
The 85-meter yacht Valerie, which was seized in March due to EU sanctions, was trying to leave the port of Barcelona, DW reports.
In order to deceive the port authorities and remove the yacht from the port, the company Amtech Worldwide Ltd, which formally owns the vessel, issued a power of attorney for its operation to another company. It, in its turn, changed the documentation and name of the yacht a few weeks ago. From now on, the ship is called Meridian A.
The new name was applied not only to the hull of the yacht, but also to the life jackets of the crew members. Thus, the management company was able to obtain permission from the local administration for the yacht to leave the port, which was later withdrawn.
The Barcelona Port Authority confirmed the attempt to withdraw the yacht and noted that the process was interrupted when Valerie was preparing to leave the permanent berth.
