The yacht of the sanctioned oligarch from russian federation left Croatia without any problems
The yacht Irina VU of the family of the sanctioned russian oligarch Alisher Usmanov was able to leave Croatia without any obstacles.
The ship was on the list of assets frozen by the sanctions of the EU, Great Britain and the USA. However, the yacht was able to leave the Betina marina berth on the island of Murter, Croatia.
The yacht disappeared from the berth three months ago, but only now the authorities responsible for it in Croatia “found out” about the incident, Croatian media reported.
The cost of the Irina VU yacht is about 5 million euros. The 35-meter vessel was registered in 2012 in the Croatian city of Split.
According to MarineTraffic data, the yacht left Betina Marina on October 6. Three days later, on October 9, the ship arrived at the Turkish port of Didim. Since then, the current location of the yacht is unknown.
The other day, an almost identical yacht called Betina, which, according to an anonymous source close to the authorities, had to pretend that the sanctioned vessel was still in Croatia.
Currently, the Croatian security services, together with international structures, have started an investigation. According to the media, the Croatian border police did not know that the yacht was not allowed to cross the border.
State Secretary of the Ministry of Sea, Transport and Infrastructure Alen Gospochich said that the ship was sealed after being added to the sanctions list. The owners were informed that they could not dispose of the property, and the port master prohibited access to the vessel.
When asked how a 35-meter yacht worth 5 million euros left Croatia without any problems, the official replied that Betina is an open marina, where anyone can come without problems.
“Everything is open to everyone in the port of Betina. You and I can come there, walk along the promenade and jump on any yacht that is moored there. The ministry informed the port that the yacht is blocked, the captain of the port issued an instruction to the authorities that access to the yacht is prohibited, and the ministry does not hire security services for 24-hour protection of other people’s property, and does not plan to do so, because such a system is unsustainable,” said Gospochich.
He added that the ministry’s responsibilities do not include checking whether someone has stolen sanctioned property.
