There is a daily traffic record in the Suez Canal
A record 112 ships passed through the Suez Canal during one day — 18% more than the previous record set on November 7.
Traffic through the channel has increased sharply in the last two years: over the past five months, the average monthly increase compared to the level of a year earlier was about 16%, for the same period last year – 19%, writes TTS. At the same time, the average monthly number of transits of bulk carriers has increased by one and a half times over the past two years, universal vessels – by a quarter, LNG tankers – by one fifth, tankers by 14%, container carriers – by 7%.
As a result, the share of container ships in the structure of traffic through Suez decreased from 28% on average in 2019 to 24% this year, tankers – from 27% to 25%, and the share of bulk carriers, on the contrary, increased from 22% to 26%.
In November, 2,169 ships passed through the Suez Canal. This is 16.5% more than last November and 36% more than November 2019.
In November, bulk carriers accounted for 27% of all transits, container ships – 22%, oil tankers – 26%, and more than 6% of LNG tankers.
