Turkey has developed new unmanned ships
Unmanned surface ships will be used by Turkey. Their use could change the current naval balance in the region.
Turkey’s Defense Industry Administration will launch new unmanned surface vessels (USVs). They will be able to perform the functions of reconnaissance, defense of bases and ports, air defense and amphibious operations. The project was presented last year, currently the ships are planned to be put into service and to be produced for export in the future.
Turkish shipbuilders have unveiled three types of armed unmanned surface vessels (USVs): ARES’ ULAQ series, Aselsan and Sefine Shipyard’s NB57/RD09, and Dearsan’s USV 15. The ULAQ series of USVs can be armed with anti-ship missiles, anti-submarine weapons and long-range anti-tank guided missiles (AMVs), ORYX said.
The large-scale use of unmanned ships in the Aegean Sea could change the current naval balance in the region in favor of Turkey.
