Turkey reduced purchases of Ukrainian wheat almost tenfold

Turkey has reduced purchases of Ukrainian wheat to a record low against the backdrop of competition with Russian grain and new trade barriers.
In the 2023/24 season, Turkey was one of the largest buyers of Ukrainian wheat, but this season, supply volumes have fallen sharply. This is reported by Elevatorist.
Thus, Ukrainian grain exports to Turkey have decreased from almost 1 million tons last year to 39 thousand tons. The reasons for this are tough competition with Russian grain and increased import restrictions, which have effectively eliminated Ukraine from the Turkish market.
However, overall Ukrainian wheat exports remain stable. According to data for July-March 2024/25 MY, Ukraine sent almost 13 million tons of wheat abroad, which is only slightly less than 13.9 million tons a year earlier.
Spain remained the largest buyer of Ukrainian wheat, although its share has decreased. Deliveries fell to 3.1 million tons from 4.4 million tons last year due to a high harvest in the Western European country.
The day before, USM reported that Ukraine’s agricultural exports increased by 9.8% in March.
