Tusk: the EU must stop the illegal actions of tankers in the northern ports of the Russian Federation
Illegal actions of oil tankers in the ports of Russia on the coast of the Baltic Sea are called to be banned at the EU level.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk called on the European Commission to stop the illegal export of oil from Russian ports. This is reported by “Ukrinform”.
“These are old, rusty ships. And I will do everything possible to support the Prime Minister (ed.: Denmark) so that the European Commission detains this fleet. This should be a European decision to stop the operation of this fleet of de facto illegal transportation, which threatens environmental security in the Baltic Sea,” said Donald Tusk.
At the same time, Frederiksen emphasized that both her country and Poland want to get rid of Russian ships in the Baltic Sea – it does not matter whether they fly under the Russian flag or not, because these are only technical issues.
USM recently wrote that the threat of a large-scale oil spill in the Baltic Sea is growing because Russia has deployed a fleet of hundreds of tankers to sell oil to circumvent sanctions.
