UDP is building a new non-self-propelled fleet — barges of the SLG type
The company has dozens of unclaimed lighters that have been in the backlog for years.
At the same time, the company has a critical shortage of barges, so it has resumed the conversion program — lighters cut and connect their parts, UDS said.
This is a rather time-consuming process: lanterns are selected, defects are carried out, housings are repaired with metal replacement, and mechanisms are repaired.
Currently, the process of docking all parts of one of the new barges into a single hull is underway at the UDP production facility.
The following works are the manufacture of manhole covers, conversion of systems and laying of cables, checking for water permeability, painting of the hull. At the same time, preparations are underway for the conversion of donor lighters for the construction of the next batch of SLG barges.
The cost of building barges by conversion from old lighters is an order of magnitude lower compared to a new vessel. And the carrying capacity is greater, compared to other UDS barges.
The project envisages the construction of about 30 new barges, which in the long run will allow us to get another 5-6 barge caravans.
