UDS changes the russian names of its vessels to Ukrainian ones
“Ukrainian Danube Shipping” is already registering the new Ukrainian names of the first 12 ships in the Shipping Administration.
“The UDS received from the Shipping Administration Certificates of ownership and Certificates of the right to sail under the flag of Ukraine (ship patent) with new ship names,” the company’s press service reported.
Thus, UDS ships with the names of russian cities are now renamed after Ukrainian cities associated with shipping. The tug “Zagorsk”, where Velery Kydyk worked , was named after the fallen soldier.
The full list of the first renamed ships:
• tugboats “Boris Makarov”, “Valery Kydyk” (“Zagorsk”), “Sevastopol” (“Zvenigorod”), “Odesa” (“Nikifor Sholudenko”), “Ochakiv” (“Hagra”), “Poti” ).
• self-propelled vessels “Kostyantyn Bozhenko”, “Olexii Ivlev”, “Captain Gaidai”, “Mykola Budnikov”
• service and auxiliary vessel “Kiliysky” (“Moskovsky-2”);
• marine dry cargo ship “Reny” (Reny)
The UDS noted that the renaming process was started last year, but the renaming procedure takes a long time. In addition to completing the above-mentioned documents, it is necessary to obtain a measurement certificate from the Shipping Register of Ukraine, a minimum crew certificate from the relevant Ministry, reprogram the radar and apply new names to the hull.
“That’s why the name change was carried out in stages during the inter-flight repair work in order to avoid downtime of the fleet. The names in honor of the captains and mechanics of the Danube Shipping Company have been preserved, but they have been de-Russified and correspond to the Ukrainian spelling,” the UDS noted.
