UDS has ordered the first 10 main engines for its self-propelled vessels

“Ukrainian Danube Shipping” together with ÖSWAG partners completed the development of the project of modernization of self-propelled vessels of the “Captain Antipov” type.

“The first modernized vessels should be ready next year in order to follow their example to scale the project and modernize the entire UDS traction fleet. This is supported by the Cabinet of Ministers and our ministry. There is funding. There is agreement in principle from international donors. That’s why we decided to stop at engines of a well-known Japanese brand,” said the head of the UDS Dmytro Moskalenko.

According to him, the engines will be replaced in Austria at the ÖSWAG shipyard. The Austrians built this series of ships for the UDS back in the days of the USSR — and, according to Moskalenko, after more than 40 years of operation, the self-propelled vessels are in almost perfect condition and will be able to work for at least the same period.

It is also noted that ÖSWAG has experience in modernizing the old Danube fleet – both cargo and passenger.

“The economic effect of the modernization of one self-propelled vehicle is plus 800,000 euros per year. The first vessel to be modernized has already been lifted to the slip of the Kilia plant. Our task is to prepare it for sending to Austria, where the self-propelled vehicle will go on its own,” Moskalenko noted.
