UDS may involve the Austrian shipbuilder ÖSWAG in the modernization of the fleet
The Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company may involve the Austrian shipbuilding company ÖSWAG in the modernization of the fleet.
During a working trip to Austria, the UDS delegation visited shipbuilders from ÖSWAG. This company is one of the few that responded to the proposal of the shipping industry and offered various options for the modernization of the traction fleet with replacement of engines, the UDS reported.
It was this shipyard that in the 1980s built 19 self-propelled vessels of the M044C and M044D projects for the UDS, part of which the scompany now plans to modernize.
According to UDS‘s international partners, the company has an impeccable reputation and can be considered as one of the participants in the major modernization project with the assistance of IFC.
As for the modernization project, after lengthy consultations, the UDS decided that everything possible would be replaced in Ukraine.
Operations requiring unique experience and expertise, such as replacement of old engines with modern ones, will be carried out by European contractors.
In addition to Austrian partners, UDS is considering proposals from shipbuilders from other Danube countries. Not all shipyards are eager to undertake the project. First, they see the risks of working with a company from Ukraine. Secondly, installing a modern engine (Stage V) in a rare car so that it works no worse than a new one is a non-trivial task.
