Ukraine and IMO are developing solutions for the security of the Black Sea Corridor

A founding seminar of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) project to strengthen Ukraine’s maritime security was held in Lviv.

Thus, on September 8-10, the in-person phase of the founding seminar of the IMO project “Strengthening maritime security, safety, environmental protection and trade facilitation in the Black Sea Corridor” was held, the Shipping Administration reported.

The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Infrastructure, the Shipping Administration, the Seaports Administration of Ukraine, the State Hydrography State Institution, the Maritime Search and Rescue Service, as well as IMO experts and consultants.

During the seminar, participants discuss three key areas of work:

• assessing Ukraine’s needs in restoring critical maritime infrastructure and attracting international support;

• strengthening the marine pollution response system in accordance with the OPRC Convention;

• further implementation of the FAL Convention on Facilitation of International Maritime Navigation.

During the discussion, the parties developed a Risk Matrix and further actions within the framework of the implementation of each of the project components.

On the IMO side, the event was coordinated by Dr. José Matejkal, Director of the Technical Cooperation and Implementation Department.

“For Ukraine, this is not just an exchange of experience. It is an opportunity to work directly with international experts on specific solutions that strengthen the capacity of the maritime sector today and create the basis for its recovery,” the Shipping Administration commented.

Earlier, USM reported that the head of the Shipping Administration was suspended at his request after the accusations of People’s Deputy Skorokhod.
