Ukraine and Poland agreed on an “oil pipeline”

Ukraine and Poland have officially agreed to build a cross-border pipeline for the export of Ukrainian oil to the port of Gdańsk.

The corresponding memorandum was signed by the Ukrainian Ministry of Agrarian Policy and the Ministry of Infrastructure, as well as the Polish Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Ministry of Infrastructure.

In the near future, the countries will create a working group that will determine the technical characteristics of the future pipeline, the conditions for the construction of the two terminals, and the cost of the project.

We will remind, before the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, Ukraine exported sunflower oil to 107 countries of the world, more than 90% – through Black Sea ports. Its largest consumers are located in Europe (37%), Southeast Asia (29%) and Asia (14.9%).

Currently, an export route is open for Ukraine as part of the “grain initiative”, but the share of oil in supplies is currently extremely small. For example, in 2020/2021, the Republic of Ukraine exported 7.8 million tons of sunflower oil through its ports, and last season – 3.2 million tons, which is half the previous figures. There is only one reason for the drop in the volume of shipments – the military aggression of the Russian Federation.
