Ukraine calls on the US to import our ore instead of russian
Ukraine calls on the US to introduce sanctions against russian metallurgy, as well as to include Ukrainian ore and other products in the supply chain.
“Steel is an area where we are particularly interested in the expansion of sanctions against russian federation and access to the American market. All russian metallurgical products should be subject to US sanctions. To this end, we call for the inclusion of Ukrainian ore and other products in the Western supply chain and to replace russia in these markets,” said First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Economy Yuliya Svyridenko during a meeting with US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo.
Svyridenko also noted that it is important to compare Ukrainian ore and pig iron with EU products, and to extend the exemption of Ukrainian export products from tax tariffs (at least until the end of 2024).
With the US Deputy Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy and the Environment, Jose Fernandez, Yulia Svyridenko discussed promising areas of cooperation in the context of the implementation of the Recovery Plan of Ukraine, in particular, its energy component.
The Minister of Economy emphasized that the Recovery Plan envisages the development of a green economy: the energy system will rely on the latest technologies and carbon-neutral energy resources.
During the meeting, the practical implementation of projects for the reconstruction of Ukraine was also discussed – for example, the mechanisms of involvement of American companies in the implementation of projects, insurance of war risks, etc.
