Ukraine can sign new trade agreements with Tunisia and Morocco

Ukraine is negotiating with Tunisia and Morocco regarding the signing of preferential trade agreements.

Currently, Ukraine is negotiating with the countries of the Middle East and Africa in order to develop trade with them. Negotiations on the signing of preferential trade agreements are ongoing with Tunisia and Morocco, and discussions on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement with the UAE are progressing well.

This was stated by the special representative of Ukraine for the Middle East and Africa, Maksym Subh, at the scientific and methodological seminar “Main trends in the development of the modern geopolitical situation in the Middle East in the context of the priority tasks of Ukraine’s foreign policy”, Ukrinform reports.

“In the context of supporting the national producer and national exporters, Ukraine has initiated a negotiation process regarding the signing of agreements on the creation of preferential trade zones. Negotiations with the United Arab Emirates on the signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement are progressing very well. Negotiations are also underway with Tunisia and Morocco to sign preferential trade agreements,” Subh commented.

A preferential trade agreement is an agreement between two (or more) countries where the tariffs for the goods of the contracting states are lower than the tariffs for the others.

According to him, the negotiations make it possible to determine the export positions that the mentioned countries need the most. Determining these positions will make it easier for Ukrainian exporters to sell their products.

Subkh also noted that it is currently important for Ukraine in the current conditions to maintain uninterrupted exports. After all, now, due to the Russian blockade of Ukrainian ports, Ukraine does not have the opportunity to export most of the goods that it previously sent to the countries of the Middle East and North Africa.
