Ukraine collects evidence of oil pollution of the Black Sea

Ukrainian law enforcement officers are collecting evidence related to the pollution of the Black Sea with oil products.

This will allow in the future to appeal to international communities and file lawsuits against the Russian Federation for compensation for damages. This was stated by the acting head of the State Environmental Inspectorate Vladislav Khrushch, reports “Crimea.Realia”.

According to him, at the moment the threat of pollution is not yet so obvious. Changes in climatic and temperature conditions are expected.

It is also noted that the length of the Black Sea coast contaminated with fuel oil is 1214 meters.

The acting director of the scientific research institution “Ukrainian Scientific Center for Marine Ecology” Viktor Komorin recalled that since the beginning of the fuel oil leak from Russian tankers, it has not been localized.

“There was no such thing as fuel oil leaking and rushing to Anapa. We initially assumed so, but, unfortunately, this is not the case. Gradually, one tanker, then another, continues to release this fuel oil. And depending on the synoptic situation in the Black Sea, the Kerch Strait, the Sea of Azov, it moves to the Black Sea,” Komorin noted. Earlier, USM reported that Ukraine, Japan and the Netherlands will assess the consequences of the fuel oil leak from Russian tankers.
