Ukraine exported products worth more than $44 billion in 2022

Last year, Ukraine exported goods worth more than $44 billion — 35% less than in 2021.

“In 2022, during the war, Ukrainian business exported goods worth 44.1 billion dollars and weighing 99.8 million tons. Under normal conditions, trade indicators could appear catastrophic, because the value of exports is 35% lower than in 2021. And physical volumes decreased by 38.4%. Nevertheless, in the conditions of war, this is a feat,” Deputy Minister of Economy and Trade Representative of Ukraine Taras Kachka wrote on Facebook.

According to him, the leader in terms of export volume and price last year was corn — 24.99 million tons worth $5.94 billion. This is 1% more than a year earlier.

The second place in terms of export value is occupied by sunflower oil — $5.46 billion, 14.4% less by 2021.

Sunflower seeds made it to the top 10 export products — 2.7 million tons worth $1.3 billion.

“This is 33 times more than last year. This is the volume that the oil extraction plants could not process. I hope that in 2023 we will have a reverse flow, when the export of seeds will decrease and the export of oil will increase proportionally,” said Kachka.

Wheat exported 11.2 million tons worth $2.6 billion: compared to 2021, this is 44.1% less in export volume and 44.7% less in monetary terms.

Also, Ukraine received $1.54 billion from the export of 3.12 million tons of rapeseed. Export volumes of this crop increased by 17%, but revenue decreased by 8.6%.

In addition, soy became a rare case of significant growth in export volumes. In 2022, Ukraine exported 81.6% more soybeans than a year earlier — 1.99 million tons worth $862 million.

Of the 99.8 million tons of exported products, more than half was taken by sea — 53.8 million tons (55% less by 2021). 33.7 million tons (3.4% more) were exported by rail. Motor vehicle exports increased by 32.4% to 12 million tons.
