Ukraine finally withdrew from the railway agreement between the CIS countries
The Cabinet of Ministers adopted a resolution on withdrawal from the Agreement on coordinating bodies of railway transport of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
“This is one of the initiatives aimed at getting rid of even formal ties with the aggressor country and its “minion,” the press service of Ukrzaliznytsia reported.
Currently, the following are the participants of the railway agreement between the CIS countries: Azerbaijan, russia, Belarus, Tajikistan, Armenia, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Moldova. The coordinating bodies created by this agreement are located on the territory of the aggressor country — in the Russian Federation, and the general director of “russian Railways” is the chairman without a term limit.
Within the framework of the specified agreement, the participating countries should coordinate the operational activities of railways, the development of normative acts regulating the organization of cargo and passenger transportation. Also, the council should carry out accounting of railway rolling stock and constant information exchange between the systems of Ukraine and russian federation.
Ukrzaliznytsia stopped any cooperation with russia and Belarus within the framework of the mentioned agreement on February 24, 2022. The UZ noted that no exchange of information between the railway administrations of Ukraine and russia has taken place since then. In addition, at the end of February 2022, Ukrainian troops blew up railway junctions connecting Ukrainian railways with russian railways.
