Ukraine for the first time exported 27.5 thousand tons of soybean meal to Spain in “handy size”
The strategic importance of soybeans for Ukrainian processors continues to grow, and the transition from sunflower opens up opportunities for entering new markets.
In December 2024, Ukraine shipped 27.5 thousand tons of soybean meal to Spain for the first time in history by a handy-size vessel. This was reported by ASAP Agri CEO and Atria Brokers broker Khrystyna Serebryakova.
At the end of 2024, record soybean oil exports were recorded, which emphasized the change in priorities in the processing sector.
The expert noted that soybeans are gradually becoming as strategic a crop for Ukrainian processors as rapeseed was last season. Against the background of limited availability of sunflower seeds, many enterprises have switched to processing soybeans, which has allowed them to avoid loss-making margins.
This trend is expected to only intensify in 2025, as producers continue to look for alternatives to sunflower and increase soybean processing volumes.
USM previously reported that in Ukraine, foreign exchange earnings from agricultural exports amounted to $24.5 billion.
