Ukraine may lose the agricultural sector of the Kherson region due to the undermining of the Kakhovskay dam
As a result of flooding in the south, Ukraine will lose a large share of agricultural exports.
As of 2021, about 4 million grains and oil crops were produced in the south of Ukraine. In total, the region had more than 14% of the country’s total export potential. However, due to the explosion of the Kakhovskaya HPP, there is no supply of water for splicing. As a result, there will be much less grown agricultural products.
“It will be possible to talk about exact financial losses only after the water recedes. Currently, it is known that the amount reaches about 1.5 billion dollars,” said the deputy head of the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council, Denys Marchuk.
As USM wrote, 10,000 hectares of agricultural land were flooded on the right bank. On the left bank, according to modeling and satellite images, tens of thousands of hectares of land were damaged.
