Ukraine restricts diesel fuel imports from India

Ukraine introduces restrictions on the import of diesel fuel of Indian origin.

All batches of this resource will now undergo a procedure for selection and laboratory analysis of samples. The restrictions will come into effect on October 1, enkorr reports.

The sanctions will be applied by analogy with those introduced last year regarding Turkish fuel. Then, diesel from a number of Turkish ports that received significant volumes of the Russian resource fell under additional control.

According to the specified data, the restrictions apply only to Reliance Industries products arriving from the port of Sikka (Gujarat, India). Diesel from Vadinar Refinery (Nayara Energy, controlled by Rosneft) did not fall under the requirements, since no shipments to the Ukrainian market from there were recorded.

In August, Indian fuel accounted for 18% of Ukrainian imports — 119 thousand tons. Traders predict that after the restrictions, demand will shift towards supplies from the Middle East and the Mediterranean. In particular, diesel supplies from Italy and Saudi Arabia have already resumed. At the same time, operators expect an increase in the cost of the resource due to higher premiums and higher tanker transportation costs. Greek suppliers and the Polish group UNIMOT, which is able to double exports to Ukraine, are ready to replace some of the volumes.
