Ukraine sent almost 50% of its wheat exports to Africa and Asia via the “grain corridor”
Ukraine sent up to 48% of its wheat exports to the countries of Africa, the Middle East, and Turkey via the “grain corridor”.
During the entire period of operation of the “grain corridor”, the share of Africa, the Middle East and Turkey in the export of Ukrainian wheat amounted to 47-48%. Minister of Agricultural Policy Mykola Solskyi told about this in an interview with Mind.
He explained that a significant amount of wheat was exported to Turkey, because during the last year this country was often used as a grain hub for transshipment of grain, primarily for countries in Africa and the Middle East.
Also, a lot of Ukrainian wheat is traditionally processed in Turkish ports into flour. According to the minister, part of the wheat from Ukraine, already in the form of flour, also went to the African region.
Solsky said that during the operation of the “grain corridor” Ukraine exported approximately 20% of wheat to Asian countries, and about a third to Europe.
As for corn, about 10% of total exports are supplied to Africa. Traditional buyers of this culture are Europe (about 40%) and Asia (32%). About 15% of Ukraine exports to the countries of the Middle East and Turkey.
