Ukraine will receive a new ERAM anti-ship missile

The missile, which is being developed specifically for Ukraine, can become a universal weapon due to the integration of technologies for hitting sea targets.

The ERAM cruise missile, which is being developed to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities, may acquire anti-ship properties. This is reported by “Militarnyi”.

Currently, the project is searching for equipment such as GPS receivers, homing systems, navigation units, solutions for organizing radio communications and data transmission.

Further stages of development involve equipping the ERAM with various guidance systems that will ensure its effectiveness even in the absence of a satellite signal and significantly expand the functionality of the aviation munition.

In particular, the Ukrainian Air Force is considering the possibility of integrating 10 prototypes of the QuickSink guidance system into a format compatible with ERAM.

Reference: QuickSink is an American project to create a cheap anti-ship munition based on a dual-mode homing head and a modified aerial bomb with a JDAM kit.

Such a munition is launched from a fighter using GPS coordinates, after which its homing head searches, identifies and captures the target. The radar system and infrared camera ensure accuracy of destruction even in difficult conditions, hitting the ship’s hull below the waterline for maximum damage.

The key goal of the project is to create a highly accurate, inexpensive and easy-to-manufacture munition. It is planned that its production can be scaled up to 1,000 units per year within two years.

The development of ERAM involves the creation of a cruise missile that will have a subsonic speed of up to 200 m/s and will be able to cover a distance of at least 250 nautical miles. In addition, the munition will be equipped with a warhead weighing about 250 kg with penetrating and high-explosive properties and will have a fuse with several operating modes.

Recall that plans to create ERAM became known in July 2022. This munition is being specially developed for Ukraine to provide its military capabilities with modern weapons.

USM previously reported that Greece will transfer 24 Sea Sparrow ship-based missiles to Ukraine to strengthen its defenses.
