Ukraine will send humanitarian grain to Kenya
Ukraine will send grain to Kenya as part of the Grain from Ukraine humanitarian initiative.
The supplies were agreed upon during a meeting between Deputy Minister of Agricultural Policy of Ukraine Markiyan Dmytrasevich and Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Development of the Republic of Kenya Franklin Mithika Linturi.
Kenya faces a food crisis due to an unprecedented drought in 2022 and a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.
“Today, almost 3 million Kenyans are in dire need of humanitarian food aid. Therefore, Kenya is among the countries to which Ukraine plans to send grain within the Grain from Ukraine,” said Dmytrasevich.
The Kenyan minister noted that it is becoming more and more difficult for local farmers in the country to engage in agriculture every year due to climate change in the region. According to him, Kenya is trying to take measures to ensure the sustainability of agricultural production and supports the establishment of cooperation between the two states. In particular, he emphasized Kenya’s interest in exchanging experience with Ukraine regarding the use of leading crop cultivation technologies.
According to the results of the meeting, the parties agreed to strengthen cooperation in the field of agriculture.
