Ukraine’s export potential may drop three times, — opinion
In 2023, Ukrainian farmers will be able to export no more than 20 million tons of grain, which is three times less than last year.
This forecast was shared by the general director of the Ukrainian Agrarian Business Club, Roman Slastyon, at the Ukrinform Media Center. In his opinion, the reason for the decrease in exports will primarily be the decrease in this year’s harvest.
According to forecasts of the association, the grain harvest in 2023 in Ukraine will amount to 34 million tons. In total, in 2023, 53 million tons of grain and oilseeds will be harvested in Ukraine.
UCAB says that less grain will be sown in Ukraine this year due to low profitability and the lack of funds from farmers, in particular for the purchase of fertilizers. In addition, in 2023, the use of fertilizers will be reduced by 60% compared to pre-war levels.
Slastyon emphasized that the reduction of the harvest will not affect domestic food security and Ukraine will be provided with grain and oil this year.
