Ukraine’s transport sector suffered $36 billion in losses due to the war, — Kuleba

Due to the full-scale Russian invasion, the transport sector of Ukraine suffered losses of $36 billion.

This was stated by the Minister for Development of Communities and Territories Oleksiy Kuleba, the Ministry of Development reported.

At the International Transport Forum (ITF) during the annual Summit in Leipzig, the minister emphasized that the long-term needs for the restoration of transport already amount to $77 billion, and every day this figure only grows.

However, despite the losses, Ukraine has significant achievements in the field that are important not only for our country, but also for the world, Kuleba added. In particular, we are talking about the work of the Ukrainian Maritime Corridor, which allows ensuring food security of the world, “visa-free transport” between Ukraine and the EU, as well as the integration of the Ukrainian railway network into the European Union.

In addition, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the development of the Danube region, the restoration of key roads and bridges, and the development of checkpoints.

According to him, the cost of currently active projects to restore transport and infrastructure, which are being implemented with the support of international financial institutions, is over $1 billion.

Earlier, USM reported that the European Commission had adopted a transitional mechanism for trade with Ukraine instead of a “trade visa-free regime.”
