Ukrainian exports from ports have saved tens of millions of people, Zelenskyy said
Tens of millions of people in the world, primarily in African countries, have been saved from hunger thanks to the supply of food from Ukrainian ports within the framework of the UN program.
“Our grain export initiative has been continued, despite all the difficulties, despite various russian manipulations, and we will continue to export agricultural products through our Black Sea ports. This is a very specific thing. The thing thanks to which the world sees the importance of Ukraine”, said the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy in an evening video address.
According to him, since August 1, more than 450 ships have taken out 11 million tons of food from the ports of Great Odesa
Zelenskyy clarified that the geography of supplies is very wide: Morocco, Algeria, Libya, Tunisia, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya, Yemen, Lebanon, Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Turkey, as well as countries of the European Union.
“Tens of millions of people, primarily in African countries, have been saved from hunger, in particular, due to supplies within the framework of the UN food program from our ports. It was also possible to reduce the tension on the global food market, which means that food prices are significantly lower than they would be without our food exports,” the head of state explained.
Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine has done everything to expand this work, and thanked its partners – the UN and Turkey.
He also informed that on November 17, a meeting was held in the President’s Office regarding the Grain from Ukraine initiative.
“We have the consent of countries such as Germany, Poland, Belgium, Japan, Turkey, and the USA to join the work of the initiative. But these are those who have already made up their minds. There will be more participating countries,” the head of state added.
According to Zelenskyy, the meaning of the initiative is that all the countries of the world, together with Ukraine, can ensure the supply of food for those who suffer the most from lack of food.
