Ukrainian icebreaker “Noosfera” arrived in Antarctica at the Polish station

The scientific research icebreaker “Noosfera” has reached the Polish station “Artztowski” in Antarctica.
The first stop in the new season was traditionally the Polish Antarctic station on King George Island, the National Antarctic Science Center reports.
The ship’s journey from Cape Town to this island was 4,294 miles (6,910 km) and took 17 days.
“Thanks to the experience of Captain Andriy Starish, “Noosfera” managed to avoid storms, and even the Drake Passage, known for its huge waves, was quite gentle with our team,” the scientists said.
The unloading of “Noosfera” will continue in the coming days. The ship’s next stop will be Punta Arenas, Chile, where the participants of the Ukrainian seasonal expedition will board.
“They will go to the Akademik Vernadskyi to conduct additional research and urgent work on the modernization of the station,” the NASC said.
We remind you that the fifth Antarctic season of the Noosphere is currently underway. It began in mid-October this year and should become the longest in the entire history of the vessel under the Ukrainian flag.
USM previously reported that the icebreaker “Noosfera” has begun its fifth Antarctic season.
