Ukrainian mine-clearing divers receive 16 new underwater drones for mine clearance

The underwater demining units of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine received 16 underwater drones to search for mines and other explosive objects.

The Deep Tracker Revolution manned underwater drones were purchased by the United Nations Development Program in Ukraine. Funds for the equipment were allocated by the governments of the Republic of Korea, France, and New Zealand, according to the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine.

Drone characteristics:

• operate in fresh and salt water;

• have a high-quality 4K camera and sonars;

• remote control via a 300-meter cable;

• batteries last for 3 hours of operation.

“The drones are powered by lithium-ion batteries, the charge of which lasts for 3 hours of operation. Given the availability of a replaceable battery pack and fast charging, sappers can work with Deep Tracker for a full shift,” the message says.

31 diver-sapper of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine have already successfully completed training in the use of these drones.

The ministry noted that as of now, about 13.5 thousand km2 of Ukrainian water bodies remain potentially mined. These are rivers, lakes, flooded quarries, as well as the territorial waters of Ukraine that have been affected by hostilities. Their demining is important for maritime logistics.

As previously reported by USM, Nibulon showed how they are preparing for demining water areas.
