Ukrainian minesweepers will temporarily remain at the base of the British Navy

The Sandown-class “Cherkasy” and “Chernihiv” anti-missile ships, which Great Britain handed over to Ukraine in 2022, will remain at the British Navy base in Portsmouth for the time being.

It will be recalled that in 2022, two Sandown-class ships were withdrawn from the British fleet, named “Cherkasy” and “Chernihiv” and took part in multinational exercises under the Ukrainian flag.

The ships are currently almost impossible to move to the Black Sea because of the Montreux Convention, which prevents warships from passing through the Bosphorus and Dardanelles – so they will remain in Britain this year.

So, on April 11, both minesweepers arrived in Portsmouth, writes the Polish publication Gospodarkamorska. It is from Britain that ships will take part in regular NATO exercises in the coming months.
