Ukrainian Navy plans to create a mine countermeasures division
In the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, they talked about plans to create a mine countermeasures division for the safety of civilian shipping.
“We are moving forward, and as for further prospects, the creation of a full-fledged anti-mine division is currently being discussed, because one of our main tasks is to ensure the safety of civilian shipping in the waters of our seas,” said Dmytro Pletenchuk, spokesman for the Armed Forces of the Ukrainian SSR Navy, Ukrinform reports.
The Navy already has two mine countermeasures ships participating in the Sea Breeze exercise, according to a spokesman.
“We hope that there will be at least four such units. We expect two more ships from the Netherlands,” said Pletenchuk.
He noted that demining is carried out constantly: “We have a mobile demining group that constantly takes care of those ammunition that fall into the visible zone, in the coastal zone, or those that are thrown ashore. It’s the same under water.”
Pletenchuk noted that a full-fledged demining operation in the water area is a very complex operation that requires a number of favorable factors, first of all, the cessation of hostilities
