Ukrainian special services told how naval drones attacked the Russian frigate “Admiral Makarov”
Details of the military operation during which naval drones attacked the Russian frigate “Admiral Makarov” were disclosed by the Ukrainian special services.
So, on the night of October 29 last year, four drones were sent to Sevastopol, three more to the southern peninsula, where the frigate “Admiral Makarov” was on a raid, “Ukrainska Pravda” reports.
One Ukrainian drone crashed into the starboard side of the ship. Meanwhile, another group of UAVs was able to penetrate to Streltska Bay, but was attacked from the shore.
Then one of the drones attacked the minesweeper “Ivan Golubets”, and other drones hit an oil filling station.
While the battle was going on, the damaged “Admiral Makarov” was heading to Streltska Bay. The Russian coastal artillery, not understanding, fired a salvo at its flagship, the ship fired in response. And while the Russians exchanged fire with each other, the remaining drones broke through to Sevastopol Bay.
At that moment, the Russians turned on all their radio electronic warfare capabilities, the GPS signal disappeared, communication with the drones was minimal. The only system that made it possible to somehow navigate was a direct optical channel on drones.
After that, the command of the operation was taken over by the commander of the Navy of Ukraine, Vice Admiral Oleksiy Neizhpapa. He ordered to direct one drone to the South Bay, the second to the North Bay, and the third to Naftova Bay.
One drone was able to swim between two patrol ships “Ladnyi” and “Admiral Essen” – and damaged both ships. However, the damage was minor.
