Ukrzaliznytsia said whether they will build a Eurorail to the port of Reni

Ukrzaliznytsia commented on the likelihood of building a Euro-gauge between Giurgiuleşti in Moldova and the ports of Reni and Izmail.

This was reported by Rail.insider.

During the Ukrainian Transport Forum 2025, participants discussed the issue of building a Euro-gauge between the Moldovan station of Giurgiuleşti and the Ukrainian stations of Reni and Izmail.

Deputy Director of the Department of Transportation Technology and Commercial Work of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia Valerii Tkachev said that the company’s plans primarily include the development of a Euro-gauge to Lviv. In the future, a connection with Kyiv and Odesa is possible.

According to him, there are “no problems” with the transportation of goods by rail to Izmail.

“This is our territory, so we are ready to transport as much as possible in this direction, to increase the volume of transportation,” the UZ representative noted.

At the same time, Tkachev reminded that when transporting goods to Reni, part of the way must be covered through the territory of Moldova, and there are nuances here. For several years, Ukrainian and Moldovan railwaymen have been discussing the issue of providing discounts on transit transportation tariffs, because they are 50-70% higher than Ukrainian ones. A solution has already been found, but it has not been possible to implement it.

Tkachev suggested that laying a Eurorail from Giurgiuleşti to Reni “will be a good option” when a “common language with Moldova” is found, and some wagon traffic will go to Reni. Today it is minimal, so investing in this direction at such times is not the right time.

“But if the economy works better and shippers appear specifically to Reni, we will consider this option,” he added.

Earlier, USM reported that UZ may change the tariff for transporting goods to the port of Izmail.
