Ukrzaliznytsia suffered over $5.8 billion in losses from Russian attacks

This year, the enemy has attacked the infrastructure of Ukrzaliznytsia more than 1,100 times.

Approximately the same number of attacks were recorded in 2023 and 2024 combined, writes The Wall Street Journal.

This year, the enemy has been more active in attacking the network of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia. In particular, attacks have been carried out on locomotives, trains, depots, bridges, substations, etc. Due to the attacks, Ukrzaliznytsia has suffered losses of $ 5.8 billion since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. The company notes that the losses may be even greater, and the cost of repairs will be much higher.

“This is a war on the railway, which is a deliberate, structured, well-planned and concentrated attempt to stop the system. Practically every link in the chain is under attack,” said Oleksandr Pertsovsky, Chairman of the Board of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia.

UZ stated that they are doing everything possible for the safety and protection of their employees. For example, train drivers have helmets and bulletproof vests, train roofs are equipped with drone suppression devices, and many substations are lined with concrete to minimize the effects of impacts.

Recall that in December it became known that Ukrzaliznytsia is working on increasing the number of freight trains to ports.
