Undermining Kakhovska HPP: which countries offered help to Ukraine
The news about the Russians blowing up the Kakhovska HPP outraged the governments of countries friendly to Ukraine. While some organizations celebrated the day of the Russian language, a number of partner countries announced help for Ukraine in connection with the tragedy.
Latvia. The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the elected president of Latvia, Edgars Rinkevičs, announced that the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is preparing a draft order on the allocation of 200,000 euros to Ukraine to eliminate the consequences of the Russian blow-up of the Kakhovskaya HPP.
Lithuania. According to LRT, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Lithuania, Agne Bilotaite, said that they plan to give Ukraine 50,000 euros in financial aid, as well as tents and folding beds.
France. In a telephone conversation with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, French President Emmanuel Macron promised to provide humanitarian aid to overcome the consequences of the hydroelectric power plant explosion, BFMTV reports.
Czech Republic On June 7, the country’s government approved the provision of aid to Ukraine to eliminate the consequences of a dam breach, ČTK reports.
According to the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Petr Fiala, the Ministry of Defense will provide Ukraine with “some things that are important to overcome this disaster.” Among them are tanks for distributing drinking water, life jackets and circles, as well as drainage pumps.
The day before, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Jan Lipavsky announced that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will allocate 10 million crowns (423.2 thousand euros) to help Ukraine.
Poland. Polish Minister of the Interior Mariusz Kaminski announced on Twitter that large water tanks will be handed over to Ukraine, as well as pumps for pumping out water from areas flooded as a result of the explosion of the Kakhovska HPP.
In total, Ukraine will receive 10 water tanks with a capacity of 18,000 liters and 10 high-performance pumps.
USA. The President of the United States, Joe Biden, expressed his firm readiness to provide Ukraine with the necessary assistance in connection with the Russian blow-up of the Kakhovskaya HPP. The president stated this during an official meeting in the White House, Ukrinform reports
The White House and the State Department assured that they are interacting with the Ukrainian side and collecting detailed information in order to make final conclusions and provide the necessary assistance to people who were forced to leave their homes.
In addition, Ukraine appealed for help to the EU, which used the Civil Protection Mechanism to provide assistance, and the first contributions were made by Lithuania, Austria and Germany.
Germany offered 5,000 water filters and 56 generators. Austria handed over 20 water tanks and 10 drilling pumps (they are already on their way to Ukraine). Lithuania and Germany also offered tents, beds and blankets.
