Unique video: a baby whale plays with the icebreaker “Noosfera”

The crew of the Ukrainian icebreaker “Noosfera” managed to shoot a unique video with the participation of a baby humpback whale.
The video was taken when “Noosfera” was heading through the Penola Strait in the Antarctic (this is the area of the Ukrainian station “Akademik Vernadskyi”), the NASC reported.
According to the proportions of the whale’s body, scientists determined that he is still a teenager. So his mother must have been somewhere nearby as well. In general, cubs feed on mother’s milk for up to a year, but already after six months they can eat the same food as adult animals (krill).
Humpbacks got their name from the dorsal fin, which gives the body a humpback shape, as well as the habit of strongly arching the back in the area of this fin during diving.
An adult humpback whale is up to 18 meters long and weighs up to 40 tons. The height of a person does not exceed the size of the tail fin of this animal.
Humpbacks have many types of activity near the surface of the water, in particular, they jump a lot, make nets from air bubbles during feeding, actively vocalize and gather in groups.
Earlier, USM reported that the icebreaker “Noosfera” delivered the 29th Ukrainian Antarctic Expedition to the Antarctic station.
It will be recalled that the famous American actor and one of the UNITED24 ambassadors, Liev Schreiber, visited the “Noosfera” icebreaker.
