USPA: Fleet renewal is a matter of the future capacity of the port system

The USPA named three key areas for further development, including modernization of port infrastructure.

This was reported by the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority.

The Ukrainian-Japanese conference “Economic Growth of Ukraine” was held in Kyiv, during which the issues of development of critical infrastructure, energy and high technologies were discussed.

The head of the USPA, Oleksandr Semyrha, presented a strategic vision of post-war recovery and development of maritime logistics.

“We clearly distinguish two dimensions of our work. The first is ensuring the continuous functioning of ports in war conditions. The second is strategic: forming a systemic vision of the recovery and development of the industry,” the head of the USPA noted.

Among the key areas for further development of the USPA: renewal and modernization of port infrastructure, digitalization and attraction of investments.

In particular, the importance of full digitalization and ensuring maximum transparency of procedures in seaports of Ukraine through the implementation of the DocPort system was discussed.

The head of the USPA paid special attention to the fleet renewal program.

“Our technical fleet is critically worn out — more than 65% of vessels were manufactured before 1990 in the Soviet Union. It is not only about outdated equipment, but also about the limitations in its maintenance, especially in wartime. Therefore, fleet renewal is a matter of functionality and future capacity of the port system,” Oleksandr Semirga emphasized.

The conference noted the cooperation of the USPA with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). We are talking about technical assistance worth more than $2.4 million.

Recall that the USPA was among the three most profitable state-owned companies in Ukraine in 2024.
