USPA joined the seminar on marine environment protection and pollution response

The event brought together representatives of Ukrainian maritime, environmental, emergency and rescue services and law enforcement agencies.

This was reported by the USPA.

Last week, a representative of the SE “USPA” took part in the thematic seminar “Marine Environment Protection and Response”, organized by the EU Advisory Mission to Ukraine together with experts from the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency and the Swedish Coast Guard.

During the seminar, the USPA representative presented the role, powers and practical experience of the enterprise in the field of marine pollution prevention, as well as ensuring preparedness for the localization and elimination of spills in the seaports of Ukraine.

The participants paid special attention to:

• improving interdepartmental coordination;

• identifying existing legal, organizational and operational gaps;

• developing pollution response capabilities;

• implementing European approaches and functions of the coast guard;

• strengthening interaction between maritime, environmental and emergency services.

Participation in such events contributes to the exchange of international experience, the development of partnerships and further improvement of the national marine environment protection system.

USM previously reported that an exercise was held in the Odesa port to practice actions in the event of a spill of pollutants.
