UZ transported a record amount of cargo since the beginning of the full-scale war

In March, JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” transported the largest amount of cargo since the beginning of the full-scale war.

So, in March, 12.2 million tons of cargo were transported by rail — this is the highest monthly figure since the beginning of the russian invasion of Ukraine in February last year. This was stated by Valery Tkachov, deputy director of the commercial work department of Ukrzaliznytsia, during a meeting of the Export Office at the UZ, reports Rail.insider.

According to operational data, during March 2023, 12.2 million tons of cargo were transported by rail, which is 3.9 million tons or 47% more than in the same period last year. Also, the volume of transportation in March exceeded the figure of the previous month by 1 million tons, or 8.7%.

In March, UZ transported 5.3 million tons of cargo for export. Compared to the same period in 2022, the indicator increased by 73.4%. The largest exports were grain cargoes — 2.5 million tons (47%), iron and manganese ores — 1.7 million tons (33%), ferrous metals — 400,000 tons (6%).

Despite the fact that grain crops make up the largest part in the structure of export transportation, their export by rail decreased by 14.4% compared to the previous month. In particular, a decline in transportation towards sea ports is recorded. The reason is the blocking of the “grain corridor” by representatives of russian federation in the Joint Coordination Center, which inspects ships in the Bosphorus.
