Vessel “Ursa Major” was transporting equipment important to the Russians, — Pletenchuk

The Russian dry cargo ship “Ursa Major”, which sank in the Mediterranean Sea on December 24, was actively used for military transportation.

In particular, at the time of the accident, the ship was transporting important equipment for the Russians, said Dmitry Pletenchuk, spokesman for the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on the air of the telethon.

According to Pletenchuk, the “Ursa Major” was part of the so-called “Syrian Express” and supplied cargo for the Russian military base in Tartus.

“This is actually a large universal dry cargo ship that could transport various cargoes of any type. In the video, you can see that it was transporting quite expensive foreign-made equipment,” Pletenchuk said.

The Navy spokesman noted that due to the lack of appropriate equipment, the Russians could not load Kalibr cruise missiles into Novorossiysk for six months. This, he said, demonstrates the importance of the equipment that the ship was transporting.
