Vysotskyi: Direct losses of the agricultural sector due to the war amounted to more than $10 billion

During two years since the beginning of the large-scale invasion of Russia, the direct losses of the agricultural sector amounted to more than 10 billion dollars.

The restoration of the Ukrainian agricultural sector is the stability of world food markets, said acting Minister of Agricultural Policy Taras Vysotskyi.

“Due to Russian aggression, Ukrainian farmers suffered significant losses. From the destruction of agricultural machinery for a total of 5.8 billion dollars to the loss and destruction of livestock farms for more than 250 million dollars. And international food prices in 2022 increased by about 35%. The situation was stabilized only after the establishment of new export routes. Therefore, support is needed for the recovery of the Ukrainian agricultural sector,” said the head of the Ministry of Agriculture.

Acting the minister emphasized the need for long-term projects to support the Ukrainian agricultural sector. One of these is the program of financial support for Ukraine from the European Union Ukraine Facility.

Taras Vysotskyi also emphasized that increasing the production of value-added products is a contribution to the energy security of Ukraine and the European Union. According to him, Ukraine can potentially produce enough bioethanol and biomethane from various types of agricultural waste.

In addition, Vysotsky noted the need to introduce preferential insurance for agricultural producers.

It will be recalled that in April, as a result of a Russian attack on a Singaporean agricultural enterprise in Odesa region, 10 oil storage tanks were destroyed. Damages from the attack amounted to more than UAH 57 million.
