Vysotskyi: Ukrainian farmers need support from partners

As a result of the full-scale invasion, the logistics chains of the export of agricultural products to world markets were affected.

It is necessary to create a system of supply of agricultural products resistant to threats in order to guarantee the food security of Ukraine and the world. This was stated by First Deputy Minister of Agricultural Policy Taras Vysotskyi at a meeting of the NATO Food and Agricultural Planning Committee.

“Thanks to the opening of the Ukrainian sea corridor, 85% of agricultural products are exported by water. The rest — by rail and a small amount by road. But it is very important to preserve all possible export routes, since even a week’s delay has a critical impact on the state of the agricultural sector and the country’s food security. Therefore, Ukrainian farmers need support in order to ensure the world’s food security in the future,” Taras Vysotskyi emphasized.

A number of other factors also affect the activities of agricultural producers. In particular, partial or complete destruction of agricultural farms, food production and critical infrastructure enterprises.

The Ukrainian agricultural market is also harmed by mining and contamination of agricultural lands with heavy metals, temporary occupation of part of the territories, and destruction of the irrigation system of the southern regions due to the undermining of the Kakhovska HPP.

Taras Vysotskyi recently advised Ukrainian farmers to look for sales markets outside the EU because of increased import restrictions.

The day before, agrarians calculated the losses from the new EU decision regarding Ukrainian agricultural products.
