Waves 10 meters high: “Noosfera” passed the Drake Passage (video)
The icebreaker “Noosfera” made a flight from the station “Akademik Vernadskyi” to Chile. The height of the waves in the Drake Passage reached 10 meters.
The voyage lasted 9 days, three of which the ship passed through the Drake Passage, according to the National Antarctic Science Center.
Already on April 13, the icebreaker docked in the port of Punta Arenas.
“For three days, the Noosphere passed through the Drake Passage, which this time was very wayward. The height of the waves reached 9-10 meters, and the wind speed was 30 m/s,” the scientific center said.
“Noosfera” brought participants of two Ukrainian Antarctic expeditions to Punta Arenas.
In the near future, “Noosfera” will again go to the Antarctic to ensure the rotation of polar explorers at the Polish station “Artstovskyi”.
Therefore, the icebreaker will return to the port of Cape Town (South Africa), where it will stay until the next Antarctic season.
Earlier, USM reported that a new international study had started on the “Noosfera” icebreaker.
