What does the sanctioned Russian tanker hit by the SBU drone look like now (video)

The network published a video showing the damage to the Russian-sanctioned tanker Sig, which was received after a “meeting” with a Ukrainian naval drone.

The video was  published in the Telegram channel “Monitor Community”.

An unmanned maritime kamikaze drone struck the tanker on the night of August 5 while it was on the southern approach to the Kerch Strait, about 30 miles offshore.

The vessel is currently under repair. Probably, the video was taken by one of the employees of ship repair enterprises. The man behind the screen suggests that the hole is 8×8 m in size, but the actual extent of the damage is difficult to determine from the video.

The author of the video also claims that the impact of the marine drone completely tore apart the engine room of the tanker, due to which it lost the ability to move.

It will be recalled that sources in the SBU confirmed the destruction of the Russian tanker. The special operation was carried out together with the Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It is reported that the attack was carried out using a surface drone with 450 kilograms of TNT.

The Russian tanker falls under the ban of the Ministry of Defenсe of Ukraine on the transportation of military goods and can be considered as a military target.

In the past, Sig supplied jet fuel from occupied Crimea to Syria. For this, the vessel was subject to US sanctions in 2019.

The analysts of Lloyd’s List Intelligence noted that already after the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, the tanker repeatedly departed from the waters of the Azov and Black Seas to the shores of Syria. Most of the time the ship was traveling with the transponder turned off.
