Zelenskyy appointed Zaluzhnyi as permanent representative to the IMO

President Volodymyr Zelensky has appointed Valery Zaluzhnyi as Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
This is stated in the presidential decree № 151/2025.
It is noted that Valery Zaluzhnyi will perform the duties of the Ambassador of Ukraine to the United Kingdom and the Representative of Ukraine to the International Maritime Organization part-time.
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is an international intergovernmental organization within the UN. The organization’s activities are aimed at eliminating discriminatory actions related to international merchant shipping, as well as adopting standards to ensure safety at sea and prevent pollution from ships.
Earlier, USM reported that the owner of the tanker Frontline criticizes the IMO for the “shadow fleet”. Frontline Director General Lars Barstad accused the UN maritime regulatory body of being “asleep at the wheel”, not paying attention to the growing “shadow fleet” of unregulated vessels.
