Zelenskyy recognized the Kuril Islands as the territory of Japan


President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi signed a Decree recognizing the Kuril Islands as a territory of Japan temporarily occupied by russia.

“The important decision made today is fair, legally flawless, and historic,” Zelenskyy said in a traditional video message on October 7.

According to him, Ukraine confirmed its respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Japan, including its northern territories, which are still under the occupation of russian federation.

On October 7, the President signed the corresponding decree and also noted: “There is a corresponding statement of the Verkhovna Rada. And we call on everyone in the world to make similar decisions.”

Zelenskyy emphasized that russia has no right to Japanese territories, and “we must finally act and free from russian occupation all the lands that the occupiers are trying to keep.”
