UDP begins full modernization of its vessels
PJSC “Ukrainian Danube Shipping” has begun preparatory work on the dry cargo ship “Captain Babkin” – the first of four steamship vessels that will undergo deep modernization.
The works will be carried out at the Kili Shipbuilding and Repair Plant, which is a structural unit of the UDS, said the acting director. general director of UDS Dmytro Moskalenko.
“The experts’ preliminary conclusion is that the hull has been preserved quite well and can last for many more years. This means that the complete modernization of the vessel with the replacement of engines is economically justified. In the near future, we will receive accurate data — the results of thickness measurements,” Moskalenko wrote on Facebook.
Currently, the process of cleaning the ship is already underway: the internal stuffing – wall lines, the propeller complex is being dismantled.
“On the basis of the old hull, a new modern ship will actually be built with an automated control system, powerful and economical engines, comfortable conditions for the crew,” said Moskalenko.
Part of the work is planned to be done in Ukraine, the rest — at the shipyard where the ships were built. Next week, a meeting with the European partners of the UDS is planned, during which the specific framework of the project will be agreed upon.
