Up to 85,000: Ukraine wants to increase fines for seamen
It is planned to increase fines for ship captains for not helping people in times of disaster.
In Ukraine, it is proposed to increase the fines for failure to provide assistance by the ship’s captain to people who are in distress at sea or on other waterways. We are talking about situations in which the captain has the opportunity to provide assistance without serious danger to his vessel and the persons on board, says draft law No. 9284.
The draft law was developed because Ukraine must fulfill the obligations of the flag state under its international treaties in the field of shipping and the sustainable worldwide practice of providing assistance to people in times of disaster.
Previously, the maximum fine amounted to one hundred tax-free minimum incomes of citizens (1.7 thousand UAH).
Currently, fines from one (17 thousand UAH) to five thousand (85 thousand UAH) non-taxable minimums are proposed for offenses. Or punish with correctional labor for a term of up to two years, or arrest for a term of up to six months, or restriction of freedom for a term of up to two years.
